How
it works
The
Basics of Stress:
Your
mind and your body are intertwined; your emotions and feelings affect
every organ and system in your body. Feelings of stress release
a cascade of hormones designed to help your body "fight or
flee." Your blood pressure, breathing rate, metabolism, and
heart rate all increase. Even low-level stress over the long term
can create disease or distressing symptoms. Low-level stress can
exacerbate symptoms of illness.
Examples
of some of the conditions exacerbated by stress include Infertility,
Painful Periods, Menopausal symptoms, Insomnia, Headaches, Anxiety,
Depression, Chronic Illness (Cancer, Hypertension, Diabetes, Irritable
Bowel, Fibromyalgia, TMJ), Chronic Pain, Lacking in Life Direction,
Low Self-Esteem, Fear of trying something new, Weight Issues, Low
Immunity.
What
can I do?
The
Relaxation Response is the exact opposite of the "fight or
flee" stress response. When you elicit this response on a regular
basis, your body becomes less responsive to the stress hormones.
You begin to feel more in control, more alert and aware. There are
many different relaxation techniques that will help you to elicit
this response. Some of the techniques include breathing, muscular
relaxation techniques, and emotional relaxation techniques. One
very powerful tool is imagery.
Imagery:
THE
MIND IS A POWERFUL TOOL…USE IT TO HELP YOURSELF
Deepak
Chopra states, "What we focus on expands." Imagery allows
you to build the picture of what you wish to achieve, building cellular
memories deep within your body.
Imagery
is one technique that can be used to elicit the Relaxation Response.
This is a powerful technique that can help with physical, emotional,
or spiritual effects of stress. Imagery is simply focused daydreaming
using all of your senses. Your brain does not know the difference
between an image that is real and an image that you think about.
Imagery allows you to provide your body with the images that you
would like to be real.
Remember…A
substantial body of scientific evidence demonstrates that our bodies
respond to the messages we give.
Imagery
works best after you have quieted the body with a general relaxation
exercise. Once your body is quiet, your mind is very receptive to
the images you bring.
Our
bodies, down to each individual cell, are vibrating. Healthy cells
vibrate at a very high rate. Negative events or emotions decrease
a cell's level of vibration. Disease can only be present in low
vibrations. Releasing negative thoughts, emotions, and memories
increases the body's vibration, healing mental and physical disease
and building strong immunity.
Emotional
Release
Emotional
Freedom Technique (EFT) transforms and eliminates negative
emotions that keep you from living completely and fully. EFT is a gentle energetic process that works to rebalance the body’s
energy system. Imbalances in the energy system can cause both physical
and emotional upset.
EFT is
a process that combines gentle tapping on specific areas of the
body along the energy meridians and verbal phrases to help realign
the energy system.
EFT
is appropriate for:
- Phobias
- Depression

This
work is unique in that it stays in the present, clients receive
nearly immediate relief and the effects are permanent. When combined
with relaxation techniques and imagery, clients can have a toolbox
full of coping techniques to be able to live as fully and as happily
as they wish.
