Theoretical
Approach
Learn
to elicit the scientifically proven relaxation response to facilitate
your body's own resources. This approach complements your current
health care program. Using the relaxation response will improve
your day-to-day quality of life.
The
relaxation response counters the negative effects stressful or anxious
situation have on your body. Day-to-day living as well as health
issues can introduce new stress and anxiety into your life. If you
do not release these feelings, they can lead to physical problems
such as headaches, backaches, indigestion, muscle cramps. Additionally,
they can affect you mentally with symptoms such as memory loss,
anxiety, feelings of sadness, or anger.
If
these feelings persist, your body will come to recognize the physical
effects as signs of anxiety, thus cueing the mind that more anxiety
is present and strengthening the physical effects. This becomes
a vicious cycle that is not productive.
Introducing
techniques that elicit the relaxation response allows you to break
the cycle of anxiety and tension, releasing the physical effect
of stress and anxiety, and optimizing your body's overall health.
Once you are in a relaxed state, your mind is much more susceptible
to messages that you wish to give your body.
